Wearable River

1 / Concept

Water from the Sumida River is injected into floats that participants wear and stroll along the streets of Asakusa. By employing a float, which evokes the funny connection between people and water, this project aims to encourage participants to rethink the relationship between rivers and people in the contemporary urban environment. Although we do not see the float being used in a normal way, floating on water, in the Sumida River, this project suggests a new sense of play by recombining the elements of “water,” “people” and “floats.” The float filled with river water also embraces within it the sound, temperature, smell and weight of the river and thereby becomes a personal and portable Sumida River.
