Wearable River

Water from the Sumida River is injected into floats that participants wear while strolling around the streets of Asakusa, Tokyo. By employing the means of a float, which evokes a fun connection between people and water, Wearable River aims to encourage participants to rethink the relationship between rivers and people in the contemporary urban environment. The project creates a new form of play by recombining the elements of water, people, and floats at the Sumida River, where people are never seen using floats. The floats filled with river water also encompass the sounds, temperature, smells, and weight of the Sumida, becoming a personal and portable version of the waterway.
