Back Fabric / Back of Mt. Fuji

富士吉田市が裏地の生産地であることに着目し、街のシンボルともいえる富士山を正面に望む元銀行の屋上を舞台に選んだ。屋上を覆うように出現する巨大な布は、縫い合わされた服の裏地。鑑賞者は布をくぐり、所々空いた穴から頭を出すことで見える景色の変化と、衣服のもつ「表と裏」の関係性を体験する。

Focusing on Fujiyoshida, a textile center famous for manufacturing backing fabric, this installation was on the roof of a former bank with a view of Mount Fuji, the iconic image of the city. The giant piece of cloth that covered the rooftop was stitched together from pieces of backing fabric. Viewers would go under the cloth and put their head through holes, experiencing how the vista changes and the front-and-back relationship that clothes have.
