Expanding Fashion Exercises

西尾と、書籍『拡張するファッション』（2011）でファッションを多分野にひらく提案を行った林央子、衣服への触覚的な欲望やケアとしての衣服といった観点からファッション研究を行う安齋詩歩子による、授業形式のプロジェクト。2023年から3年間、千葉県浦安市と東京藝術大学を舞台に、ファッションの対話的・協働的な側面に光をあて、さまざまなアーティストやデザイナー、研究者をゲストに招いて、ファッションに関する市民参加型プロジェクトについて実践を通して学ぶ。プロジェクトの一つである「浦安するファッション」では、浦安のまちに根付いた5つの美容院、理髪店に協力を得て、市民から預かった古着や空間を居心地よくするアイテムを、思い出のエピソードとともに展示した。観客は髪を整える以外の目的で理美容院を巡るという非日常のなかで、浦安の日常に触れていく機会となった。

Created by Yoshinari Nishio in partnership with Nakako Hayashi, whose 2011 book Expanding Fashion opens fashion up to various other disciplines, and Shihoko Ansai, a fashion researcher who approaches clothing as a form of care and studies our tactile desires for clothes, Expanding Fashion Exercises is an educational, communication-based project series. Starting in 2023 and running for three years in the city of Urayasu, Chiba, and at Tokyo University of the Arts, it spotlights dialogic and collaborative aspects of fashion, working with various artists, designers, and researchers to hold participatory, practice-based learning projects about fashion. One of these is Urayasu-ing Fashion, in which five hair salons and barbers in the city exhibit items that make a space feel more homely or items of old clothing loaned by locals as well as examples of personal memories. By visiting the hair dressers for reasons other than getting a haircut, people come into contact with the ordinary life of Urayasu in extraordinary ways.
